Can I develop a CBD tolerance?Â
Posted on September 21st, 2022
This is a question we have been asked: Can I develop a tolerance to hemp-extracted CBD. Is this a problem? Or is it even possible? Read on to find out more about what we do and don’t know about tolerance to CBD.
What is CBD?
CBD, or cannabidiol, is a compound found in cannabis plants. It’s a cannabinoid like THC (tetrahydrocannabinol), but it doesn’t get a person high. Please note, CBD is an approved drug by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA), and that approved drug is a highly concentrated version of CBD. The Tanasi products contain CBDa/CBD in a 1:1 formula and the CBD in Tanasi products is only half of the total cannabinoids listed on our product labels. They are pressed or expressed from the hemp plant version of cannabis sativa L. All statements regarding efficacy and safety have not been evaluated by the Food and Drug Administration. These hemp-extracted cannabinoid products are not intended to diagnose, prevent, treat, or cure any disease.
Can I Develop a CBD Tolerance?
Why would anyone need to worry about tolerance to CBD? Well, it may be possible to build a tolerance to the effects of CBD over time. This doesn’t necessarily mean that you may need to take higher doses to get the same effects as before. It may mean that your body needs a break from what you are using for whatever reason you choose to use it. There is no miracle plant, or natural extract to solve problems that drive one to consume plant materials. We always recommend that you consult your doctor before consuming Tanasi products, or any natural product purchased in stores or online from trusted sources.
There are a few possible reasons why people may be concerned that they have built a tolerance to a product. Does my Starbucks still work if I’m sleepy after I drink my coffee? We are not sure how to answer that question, and Starbucks most likely can’t answer that question either. Why does my maple syrup have my kids bouncing off the walls when they eat waffles?
Well, that depends on the brand of syrup you choose to give them. Most syrups today are full of high fructose corn syrup (HFS) and not really the maple syrup you thought you were purchasing. The point here is, tolerances do not mean there’s a need to take more. Just stop taking the hemp extracts for a while, and see if you notice differences when you start taking them again. Our bodies have an endocannabinoid system (ECS), and cannabinoids are processed through the ECS. The scientific community is learning more about the ECS with each passing day, and we look forward to learning more as well.
How Fast Does CBD Tolerance Build?
CBD tolerance may be a real phenomenon, but it’s important to remember that everyone’s body responds differently to cannabinoids. Some people may build up a tolerance to CBD faster than others, and some may never experience tolerance at all. If you take the time, and money to invest into your body to explore what natural plant extracts can do for you, it might be best to stop taking the products if you notice any difference with your experience. You should also communicate with your doctor about all-natural plant extract products and your experience.
Can You Become Dependent on CBD?
CBD is not addictive, and you cannot develop a dependence. However, we always recommend moderation. The reason you choose to consume hemp extracted cannabinoids is your reason. If you like the products you choose to consume, you should take them in moderation. We also recommend taking breaks from the products you consume. Just like coffee, give your body a break every now and then.
Can You Overdose on CBD?
You should also ask your doctor this question. It is understood in the scientific community that CBD is non-toxic and cannot cause an overdose. The Tanasi products recommend taking small amounts over time so you can judge from the experience as to how much you should take daily. Keep in mind, the Food Safety Administration (FSA) in Europe recommends no more than 70mg per dose. Tanasi recommends waiting three to four hours between uses. Please note, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) in the U.S. is the equivalent to the FSA in Europe.
How Long Do You Need to Fast from CBD to Break Tolerance?
There are a few ways to prevent or reduce the risk of tolerance to anything, including coffee, chocolate, fried chicken, and most importantly CBD. Aside from the practice of cycling to reset your body’s tolerance levels you can switch up brands, try other supplements, or go cold turkey. If you choose to use hemp extract products, you should know your body and why you chose to use the products in the first place. If you have any medical condition, you should be talking with your doctor.
CBD Tolerance, In Conclusion
While there is no physical addiction likely to be created from hemp-extracted CBD, there may be a mental need. Tolerance does build up to almost any substance over time. But a smart system of cycling, dosing, and keeping an eye on the amounts and frequency of hemp extracts you take can go a long way toward managing an assumed or noticed tolerance.
