Calling All Tree Huggers and Cannabis Oil Lovers!

Posted on April 22nd, 2020

We’re in an unprecedented moment in history. Reaching out and touching anyone who doesn’t live in your house is totally off-limits and that can be pretty tough. But there’s always a silver lining! In this case, we’re pretty thankful that nature hasn’t been canceled. In fact, we believe that we need our cannabis oil, sunshine and trees now more than ever! And boy, are we excited to celebrate all of nature this Earth Day!

Want to know more about trees: why we need them, and what you can do to boost our national tree population? Just keep reading as we share our top Earth Day musings and give you a little more info on these gems of our environment. Can you feel the (tree) love?

Why are Trees and Plants Critical for the Environment?

First and foremost, trees help clean our air. Trees remove pollution from the atmosphere, which helps improve air quality and human health. The Arbor Day Foundation says that roadside trees reduce nearby indoor air pollution by more than 50 percent. And, a study of 10 cities found that community forests save an average of one life each year. In New York City, trees save an average of eight lives every year. That’s pretty impressive if you ask us!

Trees also help clean our drinking water. Studies show that forested watersheds provide quality drinking water to more than 180 million Americans. So next time you’re taking a swig from your water bottle after a run, make sure to thank a nearby tree too! Planting trees also helps reduce the effects of climate change and global warming. According to the Arbor Day Foundation, an acre of mature trees absorbs, in one year, the amount of CO2 produced by a car driven 26,000 miles.

To drive the point home even more, scientists have found that deforestation and tree loss may be partially responsible for the current Coronavirus outbreak. Scientists believe that when animals lose their natural habitat, different species come in closer contact and they pass native viruses between each other. Which sometimes allows them to jump into the human population (like what’s happening right now).

So, when we protect the trees we have and plant new ones, we may prevent future pandemics. And we also help remove pollution from the environment, while reducing the effects of climate change on our planet.

While all trees and plants will help the environment, some make a bigger impact than others. Want to know one plant that can really make a difference? We’re pretty excited about this one: a friend to all cannabis oil lovers, the hemp plant!

Reducing Your Environmental Footprint with Hemp Plants

Here at Tanasi, we use the hemp plant to produce our high-quality Cannabis Oil products. (Here’s a little more info on Cannabis oil if you haven’t heard of it!) To summarize, cannabis oil is any oil that’s extracted from the cannabis plant.

Cannabis oil falls into one of two categories: (1) hemp oil, which is high in CBD—that’s what we use in our Tanasi products. And there’s also (2) marijuana oil, which is extracted from cannabis plants with high THC concentration. Marijuana oil is still a regulated substance. Now, here at Tanasi, we love our CBD oil. And while we think that’s reason enough to celebrate this plant, it could actually play an even greater role in protecting our environment.

Because this is the story: the fashion industry is a great contributor to pollution. Every year, millions of pounds of apparel end up in landfills. And they sit there for years. But when we grow hemp plants and use the fibers of their stalks for clothing, we fix a bunch of these environmental issues.

First of all, the hemp plant grows faster than cotton plants—and needs less water while growing, which translates to fewer lost resources. Plus, when we produce clothing from the hemp plant, it is bio-degradable, which means it won’t clog up our landfills like other clothing products.

And, there’s even better news for us Cannabis Oil lovers. We extract CBD oil from the hemp plant flower. But hemp fiber comes from the stalk of the plant. Which means, if CBD oil companies work with clothing manufacturers, it’s possible to consume an entire plant for productive use, without any unnecessary waste products! Wouldn’t that be something to celebrate next Earth Day?

Of course, for now, hemp fibers aren’t in mass use. But don’t worry. If you want to boost tree and plant production right now, from the comfort of your couch, there are still ways to get involved. Keep reading for our top tips to help save our trees.

Here are Nature-Loving Groups You Can Help Right Now

Today’s a good day to meet the Earth Day Network, an organization that launches a new, world-saving initiative every year, on April 22. As this year marks Earth Day’s 50th anniversary, they’ve set a new goal for The Canopy Project, a tree-planting initiative launched in 2010. In 2020, they want to plant 7.8 billion trees, all across the globe. (Hint: that’s one for every single person on this planet!)

The organization also selected climate action for this year’s theme. They recently posted online, encouraging the public to get involved with a concept that dates back to a movement introduced on the first Earth Day—Earth Rise.

The Earth Rise Concept

“On #EarthDay2020, we say enough is enough 📢⁣

The world was not prepared for the coronavirus. But we still have time to prepare — in every part of the world — to address our climate crisis.⁣

While these global challenges are different, both require individual, collective, and systemic change. We all need to do our part to lessen their devastating impacts, we need to come together to protect the most vulnerable populations and communities, and we need to rally for political action to address these public health and existential crises.

Coronavirus may force us to keep our distance, but it will not silence our voices. This Earth Day we are using the power of digital media to issue a bold, unified demand for a new way forward.⁣

On April 22nd, we say we believe in science. We say that everyone can make a difference. We say that protecting our planet and the people who live upon it is the top priority.⁣

On Earth Day 2020, we #EARTHRISE. Are you in?”

Tanasi most certainly is!

One Tree Planted

That’s why we love One Tree Planted. As an environmental charity, they are on a mission to make it easier for individuals and businesses to give back to the environment, create a healthier climate, protect biodiversity and help reforestation efforts around the world. All by planting trees! In 2018 alone, One Tree Planted was able to plant 1.3 million trees across the globe. That’s a major accomplishment for the planet. Not to mention the effects it had on human health.

Both the Canopy Project and One Tree Planted are huge inspirations for us this Earth Day. At Tanasi, we believe any step toward climate action + supporting human health is a step in the right direction.

So, if you’re feeling helpless or looking for meaning, go ahead and plant a tree! There’s no better way to celebrate the 50th anniversary of Earth Day than by taking steps toward climate action to make this world a little bit greener!
