What is a CBD dab and how does it differ from other products? Well, this CBD delivery method offers a very concentrated form of cannabidiol. Because it’s so concentrated, and because of its form and uses, dabs deliver quicker effects but may not be for everyone. Keep reading to learn more about CBD dabs, how to use them, and how they differ from other forms of CBD.

What is a CBD dab? what is a CBD dab?

You can derive this concentrated CBD from hemp or marijuana plants, just like other delivery methods. But dabs are different because they aren’t diluted or mixed with other ingredients. As a result, dabs contain very high CBD concentrations.

A CBD dab can come in many different forms. These highly concentrated products may be called crystals, waxes, shatters or crumbles. More recently, we’ve seen CBD dabs such as honeycomb, pull-and-snap or even Budder.

Now, each of these dabs will have a slightly different consistency. And you may need to change up your delivery method when you dose. But, regardless of the dabbing product you select, you will be working with very high cannabidiol concentrations.

Do you get high from dabbing?

As long as you choose a hemp-sourced product, you will have almost no exposure to THC. And that means you won’t get the kind of head high associated with marijuana. Still, because the CBD is so concentrated, you may feel different after dosing.

After all, taking any CBD product may affect your mood. (More on why that happens in a minute.) Taking cannabidiol could help you manage symptoms of anxiety; it could help you feel more relaxed and may even allow you to enjoy a better night’s sleep. Not surprisingly, at higher concentration levels, you’ll experience heightened CBD effects. For that reason, you may feel drowsy or even experience what we call a body high, even after dabbing a hemp-extracted form of CBD.

When you dab, you can expect to feel the way you do with other CBD products. The main difference will be that your effects are maximized. So, what does that mean in real life?

Well, if taking CBD helps you manage pain, you may experience faster or more pronounced relief. The same is true if cannabidiol helps you fight nausea, recover after a workout, or sleep soundly all night in bed.

Now, some people turn to this cannabinoid for its potential therapeutic effects. Many people who suffer from MS report less spasticity after using CBD, so this benefit may be maximized by dabbing.

Effects and Potential Benefits: Why Do I feel different after dabbing?

Whether you use a CBD dab, tincture, oil or edible, any effects you feel have to do with your endocannabinoid system, or ECS. This refers to a network of receptors, neurotransmitters and enzymes that work together to keep your body balanced. (We call this homeostasis.)

When it’s working properly, you ECS balances itself, keeping important systems like sleep, mood and more in check. But if it gets thrown off balance, you may experience depression, anxiety, insomnia and more. Thankfully, CBD and other cannabinoids interact with your ECS, and may help return your body to balance.

For that reason, early research suggests that CBD’s benefits may include stress and anxiety relief. Some people may find pain relief or enjoy reduced inflammation. And emerging research suggests cannabidiol could help manage neurodegenerative diseases. So, in the future, people who suffer from conditions like Parkinson’s disease may find relief with CBD.

What’s the best way to dab?

There are many ways to answer this question. And they’ll depend on your preference along with the form of dab you choose to use.
Traditionally, you needed to use a device called a dab rig to use CBD concentrate. And that meant you also needed to incorporate a butane torch to your experience. Today, we have alternative delivery options, including e-rigs that don’t require flames for use. You can also choose to work with a dab pen. But, while these are more user friendly, they may reduce the impact of your experience. Or, it could reduce the amount of time during which you feel dab effects.

How long will I feel a CBD dab?

Just like with vaping, you won’t feel CBD dab effects for as long as you would with other delivert methods, such as edibles. The reason is very simple: with an edible, your dose passes through your digestive system and then gets pushed into your blood stream, so the process takes longer. But when you vape or dab, the active cannabinoid hits your lungs right away. And that’s why you feel the effects quickly, but for a shorter time period. Practically speaking, that means a CBD dab should last around three hours, while an edible could last for up to seven.

How long the effects last isn’t the only factor you need to consider. Bioavailability, or how much of the active ingredient actually hits your bloodstream, also matters. When you dab, your body can use a lot more of the CBD in your dose, because your lungs are more efficient at processing the cannabinoid. In contrast, if you take an edible, your bioavailability rate could be as low as five percent.

Side Effects and Risks

All forms of CBD are generally safe to use, according to the World Health Organization. Still, you should always talk to your doctor before taking CBD. Cannabidiol can interact with certain medications, so getting medical clearance before dosing is a must.

Even after you’re cleared for use, it’s important to be careful when you source your product. After all, the answer to what is a CBD bad could change if you don’t work with a trusted manufacturer.

One of the biggest concerns to consider is that concentrates could be contaminated with dangerous chemicals. If your manufacturer isn’t careful, chemicals and solvents involved in the production process may be left behind. And these could leave you very sick.

Even if you aren’t exposed to harmful chemicals, you should always choose a dab that comes with third-party lab testing to confirm its ingredients. This is the best way to ensure that your product is effective and delivers the guaranteed dose. But it’s also the only way to be sure that you don’t take more THC than is legally allowed. (That level is a 0.3% THC concentration. Remember that number, because it’s the threshold between breaking federal law and dosing without worries.)

Final Thoughts

Concentrated CBD doses can deliver fast, strong results. But they may not last as long as other forms of cannabidiol. And since you need to vape most dabs, this product won’t be for everyone. Still, for those who choose a CBD dab, expect to experience higher bioavailability, heightened effects and a quick onset of your desired experience.
