You’ve probably heard about people turning to CBD to help relieve a variety of problems like chronic pain, anxiety and sleep disturbances. What exactly is CBD? Why is it helping so many people?

What is CBD exactly?
CBD is oil that’s extracted from the hemp plant and contains a cannabinoid chemical called “cannabidiol.” The hemp plant contains over 100 cannabinoids, but CBD, when taken as a supplement, has been found to provide myriad health and wellness benefits.

Before we talk about the benefits of CBD, let’s first review the difference between hemp and marijuana, and clear up some common misconceptions.

How is hemp different from marijuana?
Hemp and marijuana are 2 species or cousins of the cannabis plant. CBD, or cannabidiol, is a chemical found in both species. But here is the big difference: marijuana contains higher amounts of THC, a psychoactive chemical that produces a high, and lower amounts of CBD, which does not produce a high.

Hemp is the opposite of marijuana. Hemp has higher amounts of CBD, and only trace amounts of THC (less than 0.3%), and therefore can’t, and won’t, make you high, but provides all the health benefits. That is why the production of hemp was legalized as part of the 2018 Federal Farm Bill—no psychoactive properties.

In sum, CBD that’s extracted or derived from the hemp plant gives people all the health benefits, without the high.

Tanasi is hemp
All of our Tanasi CBD products are hemp-based, and made by extracting CBD from the whole hemp plant, contains less than 0.3% THC, and is non-psychoactive. In the future, we’ll also offer CBD “isolate” products that contain no traceable amounts of THC.

Now that we’ve cleared that up, let’s talk about how CBD is helping people feel better!

What’s the evidence of health benefits?
In 2014, the federal government authorized research on the hemp plant, which opened the door for university and pharmaceutical researchers to look for evidence of bioactivity in humans. What they found is CBD is an anti-inflammatory agent, which in turn increases in homeostasis, or a sense of physiological balance or calm. This is backed by a groundswell of clinicians treating real people everyday with CBD who are living healthier, happier lives. Most believe we’ve only scratched the surface.

CBD is commonly used to help relieve:

  • Chronic pain: Studies show that CBD applied topically to the skin can help lower pain and inflammation due to arthritis, nerve pain, and autoimmune diseases.
  • Anxiety: CBD is commonly used to treat various types of anxiety disorders in adults, children, and family pets (dogs & cats).
  • Sleep Disorders: CBD has been shown to help people fall asleep & stay asleep longer.

The FDA has also approved the drug Epidiolex, which is used with great success to reduce seizures in children with epilepsy.

In addition, CBD is used to treat a variety of psychiatric and neurological disorders, eating and digestive disorders, as well as diabetes, heart and vascular diseases, to name a few.

The bottom line?
CBD is a safe, naturally occurring, bioactive chemical found in hemp plants that non-addictive, non-psychoactive (no “high”) that’s been found to reduce inflammation, and is helping hundreds of thousands of people with a variety of problems like pain, anxiety and sleep disorders, while also providing much needed balance or “homeostasis” to temper life’s ups and downs.

If you’re wondering how CBD can help so many conditions you’re not alone. Scientists investigating CBD asked how can one herb safely help so many conditions? How can it provide both palliative and curative effects?

The search for the answers led to the discovery of a previously unknown system, a central physiological dashboard for health and healing found in every human and in most animals called the endocannabinoid system (ECS).

What is the Endocannabinoid System?
Think of it as a master control center or dashboard that’s involved in establishing and maintaining human health across all systems. Aptly named after the chemicals (cannabinoids) that regulate our health, endocannabinoids and their receptors are found in the brain, organs, connective tissues, glands and immune cells.

In each area, the endocannabinoid system performs numerous tasks with the same goal: homeostasis, or the maintenance of internal stability in the wake of fluctuations in the external environment.

With its complex actions, the ECS is the master control for regulating our nervous, immune, endocrine, digestive, musculoskeletal and circulatory systems, and in all of the body’s organs.

That’s why the ECS is the literal bridge between body and mind.

CBD & The ECS
As scientists began to look more deeply at the ECS and understand its role, they realized they were on to something big. In 1995, researchers discovered a set of endocannabinoid receptors CB1 and CB2 in thousands of species, including humans.

From there, scientists were able to use advances in technology and further understand the relationship between cannabinoid receptors within our body (known as “endocannabinoids”) and the cannabinoid receptors in hemp compounds like CBD (known as phytocannabinoids”).

Now that we know that endocannabinoids play a crucial role in so many functions in our bodies, research suggests that supplementing our own supply of CBD—by taking it as a nutritional supplement—will help facilitate the maintenance of these functions.

Tanasi hemp extract products are created using a patent-pending University developed formulation.

The patent-pending cannabidiol (CBD) formulation in Tanasi hemp extract products have been identified as an optimal formulation through bioassay studies of cannabinoids. A bioassay is an analytical method to determine concentration or potency of a substance by itself on living cells or tissues.

Through this research, we have created a formulation of non-psychotropic cannabinoids; cannabidiol (CBD) and cannabidiol-Acid (CBDA) with proven bioactivity.

The Tanasi brand is owned by GreenWay Herbal Products, LLC, and the cannabidiol (CBD) our company places into each product is a patent pending University developed formulation of hemp extract. The research conducted has allowed GreenWay to confidently formulate a cannabidiol (CBD) formulation for you. It is this patent-pending University developed formulation that is inside every hemp extract product we have for sale today.
